the thing called arrogance

Classical compulsive competing/comparing bragger: portrait of Penelope in SNL.

He grins at people's blunders, defects, and is fed with the things people secretly wanted to be overlooked. Once being pointed with fingers, he turns irritated and impatient. In parties, he enjoys the attention of being flattered like a guru, starting off by being the host of consecutive meaningless gatherings. After a few booze, he is inclined to be even more inebriated in his own glorified history, he gloats. He chooses to swim in a safe zone, in topics he is interested in and comfortable with, something he narcissistically regards himself a pro, a guru. For those who see through him, they simply avoid him and leave him where he is, moving on without telling him where goes wrong.

Her debris makes her sneer at people in their face, with a disguise of concern and pseudo apologetic tone when she detects a grimace, a frown or an awkward silence. But she is extremely cautious about words like "sorry," "apology," "regret" and "my bad" coming out of her mouth. She craves for approvals and for being a total control person, the one that is manipulative, the socially-flattered one, and she's never realized how much a control freak of herself, even attempting to make others behave, think and respond in accordance with her expectation. A princess or queen? She realizes herself would probably never be the two, but she still lusts of catching the attention like one. Deep down she realizes she'll never get to shine and stand out with her assets, she chooses her ground carefully. By comparing herself with most of others, she is gratified with certain satisfaction; she does not cease doing so, instead, she endeavors to stomp on the floor, on someone she deems her subordinate, the unequivalent, so as to show her reign, her power and her arrogance (of course, it's "pride" for her). Those who see through her merely mock her and deem her a joke, as the sketch of Penelope in SNL's skits, the pathetic comparing and bragging recurring character.

What do I do with these flagrant and irksome drags in real life? I choose to ignore them, ridicule them constantly in my mind and keeps a distance from them. And I am so glad that I still have my free will and freedom to turn my back on them, avoid them and watch them fall from afar. What can I say? I do not consider myself a friend of theirs, not one of their kind, and seeing them rot is never a problem for me.

Saddest thing of all, they are unaware of their being bores and nuisances to others. Even if they do, they simply blame others for not being considerate, not understanding, trying to get approval from still others, attempting to disclaim their faults and evade the truth that might mortify them. Yeah, I am talking about the ones that have been through very protected lives and taken everything for granted; in name of certain faith, religious belief, together they demonstrated the worst portraits of religious practice people and dissuade those so called "unsaved souls" to remain what they are and where they have always been, excluding religion from their lives.

For them, there is always something to brag about: health, wealth, green card, kids, or how good they are capable of a language. Layer after layer, stance after stance, and comparison after comparison. If there is an invisible and invincible hierarchy, no doubt they regard themselves on top of all time.

Alas, but what do I know? I am just a plain small potato, one squeeze and you will see me squashed into saucer-size smashed potato, not even the buttered-up delicious kind.
